The experience is fundamentally different
Traditional saunas heat the room and stones; water on suitable stones creates a burst of humidity. Infrared emitters radiate energy toward occupants at lower air temperatures. A product should not be labeled traditional merely because it reaches a higher temperature.
Installation usually separates the choices
Many compact infrared cabins use 120V dedicated circuits and arrive as finished panels. Traditional heaters commonly use 240V and require a properly built room, ventilation, clearances, heat-rated materials, controls, and electrical work.
Ownership questions to ask
Consider spontaneous versus planned sessions, desired humidity, warm-up time, cleaning, water handling, placement, noise, and whether an electrician or contractor is acceptable. The best technology is the one your home can support and you will use.
